Sue was born in Ohio and grew up in Southern California. She has maintained a studio in Northern California since moving there in 1997.
2007 – Sue co-founded the ICB Artists Association in Sausalito, California. The Industrial Center Building has had art studios for many years and has hosted annual events for more than 40 years. In 2007 Sue along with a small group of artists formed the ICBAA to formally organize their promotional efforts. The group now in its 7th year, continues to expand its offerings to the artists in the building.
2009 – Averell founded Sausalito Artists, AKA Sausalito Artists @ Work. For 5 years the business focused on one annual event that took place Labor Day Weekend.
2010 – Sausalito Artists began offering customized, guided tours to the art studios. The group expanded to include any artist with a studio in Sausalito, California that qualifies to participate. The business closed in 2015 so that Sue could concentrate on a new series of paintings.

2022 – Sue is working to build the artists’ community in Sausalito and hopes that her efforts will bring more artists and art lovers to the city.
Sue Averell’s unique style intrigues both new and experienced collectors. Her paintings are in both private and corporate collections in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
Sue accepts commissions and works with her clients to create a custom piece that fulfills their needs. The process begins with identifying the subject and size of the finished work.
Before putting paint to canvas, Sue creates a line sketch, and often a full color, miniature painting to establish the color pallet. This is an essential step in the process and helps to ensure the final piece is what the client is looking for.
Each project is unique and Sue takes the time to understand every aspect of the commission down to the delivery of the art. Sue works with professional art handlers to ensure your art is delivered in perfect condition.
